The Death and Life of the Great American School System Best Quality

This is an excellent book that should be read by anyone who is concerned about the plight of the American school system, as well as for those who are uninformed about current problems and those that yet may come as a result of decisions made during the Bush administration. The author warns about the business-model approach to education that many states have already swung toward with negative to mixed results. She points out what educators already know. Students are not machines; they are human beings whose educational experiences are often overpowered by circumstances beyond their or the teacher's control. The "output" that comes with standardized testing does not always truly reflect the knowledge mastered in a given year, and evaluating schools solely on these test results does not truly reflect the quality of the teaching/learning at a given school. This is a book that is easy to read quickly cover-to-cover because its topic is compelling.Get more detail about The Death and Life of the Great American School System.
