The Flavor Bible: The Essential Guide to Culinary Creativity, Based on the Wisdom of America's Most Imaginative Chefs Buy Now

I picked this up by chance at a used book store and began leafing through it. Within about 15 pages I realized that I needed to own it.

This is one of the books I reference on a regular basis when I hit a creative roadblock, and it has been immensely useful. There are few, if any, recipes; instead it is filled with flavor combinations for specific ingredients from vegetables to spices, and for different cuisines (like Western Africa, Northern Italy, etc.). Want to try something a bit different with that asparagus you just bought from the green market? Look up "asparagus" in this book and it will present you with a list of flavors that go well with the green spears.

Given an unlimited budget I would buy a copy of this for every aspiring cook I know.Get more detail about The Flavor Bible: The Essential Guide to Culinary Creativity, Based on the Wisdom of America's Most Imaginative Chefs.
