Lowest Price The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court

I have met and talked to a number of the judges discussed by Mr Toobin. The one with whom I had most to do was Justice O'Connor. I had the privilege, while in Washington, of officially inviting her to come to Australia and address lawyers there. Protocol required that I first invite Burger CJ, whom we did not really want. He declined and assured me that O'Connor J would also refuse . I took the precaution of asking her husband about the matter and he told me his wife would love to come. She did so and was of course a great hit.

Australian lawyers who contested constitutional cases in our High Court - I did so - had to be interested in the views of the US Supreme Court, as our Founding Fathers followed US precedent in important respects. For example., we have a Senate whose members comprise equal numbers from each State - and a House of Representatives with roughly equal numbers in each electorate.

Mr Toobin's account of the recent work of the Supreme Court I found to be enlightening. Our Australian media tends to give us simplistic stories about, say, the appointment of Thomas J. Mr Toobin makes clear that His Honour is by no means lacking in ability and is also a popular member of the Court. One of his major messages is that although most of the judges in the period dealt with have been Republicans, it functioned well and harmoniously under the excellent leadership of Rehnquist CJ. He throws useful light on the famous incident of the duck-hunting Judge (Scalia J) and explains convincingly why there was no ground for suspecting any impropriety.

Many other aspects of the court's functioning are interestingly dealt with, but I must say my personal understanding of the clerks' functions suggests that he has understated their part in production of judgments. It is esentiaally a popular rather than lawyers' treatise which he gives us, but with that limitation it must be accouted a useful analysis. Some of your readers have suggested that it is biassed; I was conscious of Mr Toobin's liberal leanings, but thought his writing to be careful and fair-minded. Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul

I recently received the book Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge to review for Thomas Nelson Publishing Company.

What Wild at Heart did for men, Captivating is doing for women. Setting their hearts free. This groundbreaking book shows readers the glorious design of women before the fall, describes how the feminine heart can be restored, and casts a vision for the power, freedom, and beauty of a woman released to be all she was meant to be (book description)

It is God's design that we see Him as Daddy, Papa, Lover....that we truly feel romanced and loved by Him, no matter what our past or present circumstances are. Unfortunately many women have not had the honor of knowing Him this way. They stay locked up in a prison of lies.

This book seeks to see women set free and walking in the true beauty of their soul, their inner woman, the "warrior princesses" that they were intended to be! If you allow it to, it can help bring you to a place of wholeness, if you're willing to come into agreement with God and how He sees you!

This is a book that cannot simply be read through one time. I think it is one that must be read over and over, read slowing and with a heart open and ready to receive.

I would have loved to have seen some discussion questions or "thought provokers". I'm not a fan of "written out, pray this prayer" type thing. There were parts of the book that I didn't necessarily agree with, or maybe I just needed to read it a few more times to understand it better.

Overall I think it is a worthy read!Get more detail about Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul.

Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Written by Herself This instant

I won't go into details as that has already been well covered by other reviewers, but this book should be required reading in every high school.

The coverage in American school texts does not do enough to emphasize the level of savagery in the South and the complicity of the Northern states in the promotion and continuation of slavery by a 'Christian' nation.

I couldn't put this book down. It is truly an inspirational story of faith and strength in the face of almost unbelievable adversity.Get more detail about Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Written by Herself.

Low Price The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About

This book is a scam. Now if you watch the infomercials Trudeau is onto writing books about making it rich. Guess he knows what the world wants to know, how to be thin and how to be rich! He plays us right into his greedy little hand and feeds us the biggest bunch of BS! Don't waste your money. I read the first few chapters. Nothing made sense at all. Rambling on in verbage to hide his ignorance. I'm sure he is laughing his way to the bank!Get more detail about The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You to Know About.

Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds Order Now

This is the most realistic reconstruction of a fighter pilot's life I have ever read. I was flying F-4's at Cam Rahn Bay as operations officer of a fighter squadron when Robin Olds was flying out of Ubon. Many of the people who are mentioned in the book were friends of mine then and later. If you want to understand the fighter pilot mystique, this spells it out via Robin's life story.Get more detail about Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds.

Buying The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution

Dr Richard Dawkins is an accomplished popular science writer, learned evolutionary biologist (PhD, Oxford), and avid athiest. This fascinating text is quite engaging, loaded with scientific commentary and the latest information concerning the progess of the theory of evolution. Dr Dawkins presents an extensive explanation of the evolutionary process as he understands it and what evidence has led him to conclude that evolution is "fact". Unfortunately, he does take for granted some crucial areas that are actually still in contestation about the theory, attempting to sell evolution as an air-tight deal. I approached this book with the aspiration to learn more about this subject (which I certainly have) inorder to make an informed decision about the debate. Dawkins is a strict imperialist and skeptic and holds scientific inquiry in extremely high regard, though almost to the point of placing it on a pedestal and denying fallibility. Obviously, science as a tool is still evolving and changing with the times as it is swayed by politics, popularity, ambition, and curiosity. Dawkins, however, pollutes the book with some condescending and arrogant slander about those who comprehend that there may be a God. He lumps "creationists" and adherents of various religions into piles he labels "history-deniers" and the "44%-ers", which he repeatedly berates throughout his book. Despite being so knowledgeable about his field of evolutionary biology and topics that support his thesis, he (publicly) reveals that he is rather ignorant about the finer points of faithful theistic observance. Caveat/tangent: not all "creationists" interpret the biblical account as occurring merely 6,000 years ago, nor that the Earth was formed in a literal six 24-hour days, nor that God "interfered" in the process He set in motion. If there is a God and He is the author of both the universe and the Bible, then the two would consequently be in harmony (which so far, they are). Unfortunately, evolution is mistakenly embraced by (some) athiests as proof that a God does not exist, it is not. And, some young-earth creationists believe that the realization of evolution means to deny God, it does not. Truth is the ally, and if it is ultimately revealed to be represented faithfully in evolutionary theory, great; if not, great. This text is an oasis of information concerning the evolutionary process and evidence to its merit, however, clouded with irrelevant anti-theism propaganda. Ironically, Dr Dawkins' beautifully detailed book demonstrates God's creation as truly "The Greatest Show on Earth".Get more detail about The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution.
